Starting to notice fine lines or wrinkles? Check out today's Tuesday Tooth Talk to learn how Botox can help restore and maintain your youthful look!
Botox is an injectable substance that goes underneath the skin and decreases the amount of muscle contraction. Our muscles move as we smile, frown, or crinkle our eyes, and the skin develops natural folds as time goes on. Botox works to decrease the amount of muscle contraction and folds in the skin, slowly erasing the creases in the skin. Botox lasts about 3-6 months which is a great amount of time for lasting results. You will need touch-ups but we don’t necessarily want it to last forever! If something isn’t 100% up to your liking, we want to be able to change and adjust whatever it is you may want modified. Botox is also great for people who have gummy smiles or asymmetrical smiles. We can even things out and allow for a more natural look with a minimal financial investment on your part.
Unfortunately, botox is widely misunderstood in that people think it may freeze your face or you can’t feel anything. That’s simply not true! It isn’t at all like the anesthetic we use before a filling. You will still feel everything after doing botox and you’ll still be able to move your face, smile, laugh, frown, and make any other facial expression that you could before botox. It simply reduces the amount of wrinkles created when those facial muscles are used.
The other misconception is that you have to be older in order to benefit from botox. That's not true! As with many other things, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. By going in and getting botox before the wrinkles are deep and engraved into the skin, you can prevent long term wrinkles from forming. This prevention approach ultimately takes less botox to reach desired aesthetic, is easier to maintain, and creates better lasting results.
