Botox and dermal fillers are applied to the skin to prevent or gradually erase the wrinkles that have formed over time. They are different from one another, but they work hand in hand to counteract the two separate ways that wrinkles are formed. The first way wrinkles are formed is by muscle movements pulling on the skin, which creates folds that slowly become permanent wrinkles. Botox works to lessen these muscle movements so that the wrinkles gradually smooth themselves back out over time. Another way that wrinkles form is that we lose volume in the folds in our faces as we age, and dermal fillers are used to refill these deflated areas. Botox and dermal fillers are a bit different but they work really well together. Typically, you will see 3-6 months worth of benefit with Botox before needing an enhancement. Dermal fillers last approximately 6-12 months before needing an enhancement.
