Sioux Center Dental, owned and operated by Dr. Trevor Kuiper and his staff, provided free dental services to children in need on Tuesday. Several days of screenings were held at Sioux Center schools to determine the needs and recommendations for the children that would participate in the first “Give Kids a Smile” dental clinic. Kuiper says they served thirty children on Tuesday, providing a number of different dental services.
Total cost for all the services provided to the children was a little over $23,000, and Kuiper says it was a big day.
Help from several volunteers who came from Community Health Partners, Mid-Sioux, and Kinsey Elementary School. He’s most appreciative of the interpreting services many of them provided. Looking back at how the day went, Kuiper says it was good.
Reflecting on the day, Kuiper says one thing he may do differently the next time, is to schedule it later in the week. He says the difficult thing for him is most of the kids treated Tuesday need more dental care, and that there are many more children needing dental services that won’t get it because either their parents can’t get off work to take them to a dentist, or they have financial limitations.
