Toothpaste Types
Colgate, Crest, Sensodyne, Fluoride Free, Charcoal....what is the BEST toothpaste to use? Here's your chance to find out What Dr. Kuiper uses at home and why!
If you’ve ever walked through a drug store or Wal-Mart, you’ll notice the toothpaste section has about 100 different kinds of toothpaste with sparkly boxes, various colors, and marketing promises that will have you coming back for more! What does all of this mean? All of those toothpastes are built differently for various situations. Some are for tartar control which are a bit more abrasive or aggressive at removing stains and tartar. Some are for sensitivity which are more like very fine grit sandpapers that are gentler and easier on the teeth but don’t do a great job controlling the stains and tartar buildup. There is also a huge continuum of everything in between those two! They are all built with special ingredients for gum health, sensitivity, whitening, etc. Some of the newer and more expensive options on the market are whitening pastes that are less abrasive, but in order for them to work effectively, they need to sit on the teeth for long periods of time. There is a wide variation of toothpastes all across the board for any concerns you may have. Dr. Kuiper and his family use several different toothpaste brands at home, including crest, colgate, and sensodyne.
There are two major takeaways from today’s blog:
Dr. Kuiper strongly recommends using toothpaste containing fluoride.
Dr. Kuiper strongly recommends avoiding charcoal-containing pastes as these are VERY abrasive and can damage teeth if used for long periods of time.
