In this week’s Tuesday Tooth Talk, Dr. Kuiper is going to discuss single tooth implants and how they can be a solution for problems with an isolated missing tooth!
For people who are missing one or very few teeth and don’t want to go through the process of grinding down healthy teeth or getting something that comes in and out of the mouth, such as a denture or partial, a dental implant would be the best option for you. It will replace the missing tooth or teeth with something that looks, feels, fits, and functions like your original tooth. Dental implants have 3 parts: a titanium root that becomes a part of the jaw bone, a connector that sits on top of the root, and a crown that replaces the tooth. The process from start to finish can take anywhere between 2-3 months due to the fact that your bone needs to heal after the titanium root is placed. This is similar to how long it takes any broken bone to mend. At the end of the day, you’ll get a tooth back that will last a long time, look natural, and feel like your other teeth. You will be able to chew and smile comfortably and confidently without worrying about anything coming loose or falling out of your mouth.
