A new dental clinic will open its doors Monday, June 4. Sioux Center Dental will be run by Dr. Trevor Kuiper.

“Faith, family and service are the defining characteristics of Sioux Center Dental,” said Kuiper, 32. “We strive to provide care that is so compassionate, comfortable and positive that you want to come back again and again.”

Those three core values, Kuiper said, influenced the building design, atmosphere and hours.

Three of the seven total treatment rooms will be open currently. Each one contains a bible verse on the wall. Other amenities include high definition TVs in each treatment room as well as blankets and pillows if customers are cold. The lobby will have a Keurig coffee bar or bottled water, books and magazines, educational kids play area and free Wi-Fi. Aromatherapy will also be in use throughout the office.

Even the selection of the dental materials Kuiper will be using will help eliminate the “dental office smell and feel,” Kuiper said.

“As Sioux Center Dental we are focused on providing gentle dental care and comprehensive dental treatment for patients of all ages,” Kuiper said, noting those services include dental emergencies, pain free dentistry, pediatric dentistry, dental implants, teeth whitening, dental veneers, fillings, crowns, extractions, dentures, root canals and laser therapy.

Office hours will be 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday.

“I was interested in owning my own practice because it could provide the flexibility to lead a family-oriented lifestyle, which is why we set the hours we did,” Kuiper said. “We emphasize that we’re open early to try get people before they go to work or over lunch hour. But then, at the end of the day, we want to provide the opportunity for ourselves and staff to participate in their family’s lives. We feel like we and our staff can better serve all our patients when our relationships with our families are in good shape.”

The Sheldon native is a 2009 graduate of Northwestern College in Orange City and 2013 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.

“In high school I was actually interested in medicine,” Kuiper said, who started as pre-med at Northwestern and did some job shadowing his sophomore year. “I job shadowed some medical doctors who recommended I job shadow a dentist too. I did that for about a week and realized I kind of like that.

“The appealing part was that you not only get to meet, understand and get to know the person, you get to do the physical treatment as well. A lot of times with medicine you see the person and then there’s a referral on to a specialist. I like to be that one-stop shop and really build that relationship. That’s the nice part about dentistry; if I do filling or crown, I want to see you back for next 5, 10, 15 years to have a quality relationship and work.”

Kuiper previously worked five years for a dental center in Parkston, South Dakota — located about halfway between his family in Sheldon and his wife’s family in Pierre, South Dakota.

“Being about two and half hours from either family was a long enough trip that needed planning and felt inconvenient. We wanted to be very close to at least one side of our family,” Kuiper said, noting his parents live in Sheldon and he has grandparents in Sheldon and Spencer. “We looking in both directions trying to find a place that had a vibrant community feel but also had amenities of a good school district and recreation options and facilities. Sioux Center kept coming up again and again. The more we prayed on it, the more this felt like the place to be.”

Kuiper also received positive feedback about the community, having gone to school with the endodontist, children’s dentist and orthodontist who works in town.

“They had great things to say about the community and expressed the need for more dental services,” Kuiper said. “The demographics showed that has well, especially with how fast the town is growing.”

Kuiper and his wife Kara made decision to open their new clinic in Sioux Center about a year ago. They moved to town this month with their two sons — Asher, 2, and Cohen, 1 month old.

When he’s not at the office, Kuiper enjoys staying active by chasing his sons around, golfing, reading and watching sporting events, especially Hawkeye Football. 

“God and family will always be valued above all at our clinic,” Kuiper said. “My wife and I believe those two things are the foundation of a truly great life, and we wish to exemplify those core values through our interaction with each and every patient we see. The reason we established Sioux Center Dental was to provide the community with the same great service that we would give our families, and to provide an opportunity for ourselves and our staff to invest in our family’s lives in a meaningful way every day.”
