Root Canals
Are root canals as bad as they used to be or have dental practices changed? Dr. Kuiper is going to weigh in on some of the questions that patients ask us the most often. What is a root canal? Do I really need one? Will it hurt?
Root canals aren’t nearly as scary as they used to be or as intimidating as they sound! Dr. Kuiper always tells patients that everything leading up to the root canal is the worst part. This would include having pain, not sleeping well, and pain medication that doesn’t manage the pain well. Once we numb the tooth and get you comfortable, you’re already through the worst part! The length of time for a root canal treatment is about the same length as a large filling and isn’t really any more invasive. Even though root canals aren’t cheap, it can be much more cost effective to save the tooth through a root canal treatment than it is to extract the tooth and use different replacement options such as a bridge or implant. These options are a little more involved and invasive. If we can save what God has already given you, that is always our preference!
