Dental Crowns
You deserve a crown! Most of us would love to wear a crown...but what about a DENTAL CROWN!? You may be asking, what is a dental crown? Why would I get one? In what way will that help me? We would love to answer some of your most burning questions!
Sometimes when a tooth breaks or cracks, too much tooth structure has been lost to be able to do a filling. Sometimes the broken tooth can cause pain in the mouth and will need a protective covering to preserve the integrity of the tooth. Put simply, a dental crown replaces the outer tooth structure. In other words, it resurfaces the existing cracked, broken, fractured, and decayed tooth structure and replaces the exterior portion of the tooth with a solid uniform structure. This will make for a beautiful and healthy smile with strong teeth capable of chewing for many years!
The crown will not crack and will not break. Once the permanent crown is placed, it will last a very long time. On average, a crown can last 20 years. Dr. Kuiper has also heard from patients that their crowns have lasted 70-80 years, which is a long time considering most people eat 3 meals a day and probably snack throughout the day. Even at 20 years, and 3 meals a day, that would be over 21,000 meals! That’s a lot of meals and a lot of chewing and a lot of force on a crown. Even better, with modern technology, crowns can be made out of tooth colored material and can blend in in such a way that unless someone is looking at it very closely, such as 2-3 inches away, they wouldn’t even know that it is a crown. This is better for you and in the long run, better for your overall health to be able to chew!
